Many clients come to therapy feeling really stuck.
They often tell Dr. de Jong that no matter how many positive changes they've made it
still feels like, deep inside, something's not quite right. Over time, the methods he uses
will help you make you own conscious decisions about courses of action. During the first session, he'll get an
idea about where you want to go with your life, the types of things you've
tried using to fix the problem and where you're at right now. After the initial
meeting, he may be giving you things to do on your own between sessions, like
listening to CD's, thinking about what you're thinking about or perhaps
recording what you've experienced during your day, but there is never any negative judgment made if you decide not to try any suggestions or strategies.
A big part of making progress in therapy,
however, is having a good client/therapist relationship, so he encourages you
to call him so you can discuss your situation before meeting.
Dr. Michael de Jong is a Registered Psychologist (1529), a charter member of the Association for Contextual and Behavioural Science (ACBS) as well as a Board Certified Associate Fellow of the Biofeedback Certification Institiute of America.
His approach uses a blend of cognitive, behavioural and mindfulness techniques to help you come to your own conscious decisions about courses of action, based on your own best interest instead of unconscious needs or conflicts.
